She graduated with a B.Sc. in Environmental Sciences from Okanagan University College. She moved to the Kootenays with her husband Anthony to enjoy the Kootenay lifestyle. Nina Sheldon - Receptionist |
|
Nina is another of our friendly receptionists, having recently moved from the craziness of Whistler. Her background includes working at the Squamish Veterinary Clinic, with a special interest in horses. She competed in Dressage, and came to Nelson with an entire array of animals, including her dogs Lolita and Scamper. Look forward to her greeting you and your pets when you come to the clinic.

Abby Chernenkow - Receptionist |
|
I was born and raised here in Nelson. I enjoy hanging out at the beach on hot summer days and try to avoid the snow as much as possible in the winter. My house is always bustling with activity. My four cats, Pixie, Dennis, Cotter and Pedro, and three dogs, Duke, Zoe and Madison, keep me really busy. They are my seven angels.
The best things about working at NAH are being in the company of and helping all of the lovely animals, and working with our great staff.

Dianne Matenko - Veterinary Technician |
|
My name is Dianne Matenko and I am a Registered Veterinary Technician at the Nelson Animal Hospital. In 2001 I graduated with an honours in psychology from the University of Guelph and in 2004 I graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario. I am originally from Ontario but decided that I couldn't resist the Call Of The Mountains and headed out to British Columbia after writing the Veterinary Technician Registration exam in June 2004. After only a few days of working at the Nelson Animal Hospital I adopted my wonderful beast pictured above -- my MIRTH! Mirth loves to swim in the lake and scale up the mountains like most Kootenay Mutts. I am involved in many aspects of the clinic including: anesthesiology, radiography, laboratory work, dentistry, client relations and many other interesting areas. I treat every animal that comes into the clinic as if he or she were an animal of my own and I am dedicated to providing the utmost care to all the furry friends who pass my way.

Penny Korethoski - Veterinary Technician |
|
My name is Penny Korethoski and I am from a small town in Northern Alberta, Fort McMurray. In 1999, I completed the Animal Health Technology program at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. Attracted to the mountains, I moved to Vancouver, where I work at a small animal practice until I came to Nelson in the New Year (2003).
My responsibilities in the clinic include anesthesiology, radiology, dentistry, laboratory work and whatever else requires my expertise. The most important duty for me at the hospital is to provide appropriate care for the animals to ensure they are as comfortable as possible during their stay with us.
My partner Mark and I have four pets of our own: two dogs, Mocha and Nahla, and two cats, Kanessa and Casper. The things I do outside of work involve snowboarding, cross-country skiing and hiking. Nelson has an amazing outdoor community and plenty of that to offer.

Tara Palmason - Veterinary and Kennel Assistant |
|
Tara is one of the animal care-takers. She makes sure that all the animals have fresh food and water, takes them outside when they need it, and always gives them lots of lovin'. She assists the vets when necessary, and you will see her helping out behind the counter as well. This past spring, she adopted a kitten, Tigger, who is a constant source of entertainment. Her interests include animals, swimming, biking, walking and snowboarding.

Ruth Bell - Kennel Assistant |
|
Ruth is one of our kennel assistants. She was born in England, and raised to love animals. She has always wanted to work in the animal care industry, and has found the Nelson Animal Hospital to be a great place to work. She has 2 cats, Gizmo and Mota - she says that she knows no better love than that of a pet, even if it is only "food love".
